The Del Norte County Transfer Station is open 8 A.M. - 5 P.M. Monday through Friday, and 9 A.M. - 5 P.M. on Saturday and Sunday. Please plan on arriving at least 15 minutes before closing so you have time to unload. The Del Norte County Transfer Stations are closed on the following holidays: January 1st, Easter Sunday, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.

The Klamath Container Site is open from 10 A.M. to 5 P.M. on Wednesdays and Saturdays from November 1st - June 30th, and is open during the same hours Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays from July 1st - September 30th.

The Gasquet Container Site is open from 10 A.M. - 5 P.M. on Saturdays from November 1st - June 30th, and is open during the same hours Thursdays and Saturdays from July 1st - September 30th.
Where is the Del Norte County Transfer Station?

The Del Norte County Transfer Station is located off Elk Valley Road at 1700 State Street. Turn northeast onto Elk Valley Road from Highway 101, and after about a mile, take a right just before the sign for the ‘Del Norte County Transfer Station and Resource Recovery Park.’ The sign is mounted on a salmon-colored cement wall. Take a right off Elk Valley Road, and take a left at the end of the paved road to enter the facility.

There are recycling bins for your separated cardboard, aluminum, glass, steel cans, plastic milk jugs (#2), plastic soda bottles (#1), and newspapers. The landfill also accepts used motor oil, antifreeze, non-aerosol latex paint, lead acid car batteries, fluorescent tubes and bulbs for recycling. All these services are available for no charge.

The minimum charge is $5.50 per vehicle to dispose of up to 100 pounds of trash, and above that, the rate is $109.94 per ton. There are also disposal fees for bulky items, tires, refrigerators, dead animals, and separated brush. Click here for a full price list

The best place to recycle in Del Norte County is at Julindra Recycling at 1039 Harold Street, near the intersection of Wilson and Highway 101 behind Shop Smart. They recycle just about everything that can be recycled in Del Norte, they'll pay you cash for your California Redemption Value bottles and cans.

The annual Household Hazardous Waste Roundup is generally held on a Saturday in late Summer, this year it will be on August 27, 2005 for local businesses by appointment only and August 28, 2005 for residents. Call 465-1100 for more information.
