Common Recyclables
|
Aluminum Cans
|
|
Beverage cans and aluminum pet food containers are accepted
at most recycling locations. Aluminum cans usually have a deposit
which you can collect a Julindra Recycling Center once they have
been emptied and rinsed. Currently aluminum foil is not recyclable
in Del Norte County, so leave it in your trash.

Plastics
|
|
If you look the bottom of your plastic containers for a number
inside the triangle. Plastic #1 and #2 are the only plastics accepted
at most recycling locations. In addition to being a #1 or #2 the
plastics must also be containers with a screw top and the base must be
larger than the mouth, plastic beverage bottles usually have a deposit
which you can collect at Julindra Recycling Center. Please remove lids,
be sure to rinse the containers out. Plastic shopping bags can be taken
to Safeway or Walmart for recycling. Use the recycling box in front of
each store.
Plastics #3, #5, #6 and #7 are not yet recyclable in Del Norte.

Corrugated Cardboard
|
|
Corrugated cardboard (cardboard with the wavy center) only is
accepted at the Del Norte County Transfer Station and Julindra Recycling.
Cereal boxes, box board,
cardboard with glossy finishes or wax coated is not accepted. Please
flatten all cardboard and remove excess packaging tape, and any styrofoam,
bubble pack or other packaging. Brown paper shopping bags can be recycled
with your corrugated cardboard, clean shopping bags only.
Del Norte Disposal also provides cardboard collection services to businesses.

Newspapers
|
|
Newspapers , including the comics and glossy colored inserts, are
accepted at most recycling locations. Please do not tie in bundles.
Catalogs and magazines can be recycled with your newspaper.
|
Magazines
|
|
Magazines and catalogs are accepted at Julindra Recycling, and any
of the recycling bin locations.
Magazines should not be wet or dirty and can be placed with newspapers
in the recycling bins.
|
|
Tin and Steel Cans
|
|
Tin and steel cans are accepted at most recycling locations.
These cans need to be rinsed out. If you are not sure if a can is steel
or aluminum, check with a magnet. Magnets will stick to steel cans,
but will not stick to aluminum.
|
Glass Bottles and Jars
|
|
Glass bottles and jars, separated by color (clear, green or brown),
are accepted at most recycling locations. Glass beverage containers
usually have a deposit which you can collect at Julindra Recycling Center.
|
Paper
|
Three types of paper are accepted at the Del Norte County Transfer Station
and Julindra Recycling
- White office paper (copier paper) with blue or black ink or blue
or black printing.
- White office paper ( copier paper) with any colored ink or any
colored printing.
- Colored or shredded office paper. White or pastel colors only,
No deep tones, no manila envelopes, no file folders, and also no
fluorescent dyed papers, no goldenrod colored papers, and no bindings.
Staples are ok. Shredded colored or computer paper must be placed
in separate bag that can be tied at top, such as a trash bag.
Thank you for taking the time to recycle your office paper. It is our hope
that in the future we will be able to expand the acceptable grades of paper
to encompass more of your waste paper.

Neon papers, glossy papers, papers with glue, and papers with plastic
films are not accepted.

More Recyclables
|
Used Motor Oil
|
|
There are currently six certified oil recycling centers in Del Norte
County. These centers will offer to pay you $0.16 per gallon of
uncontaminated oil. Oil needs to be in sealed containers of not more than
five gallons.

Used Oil Filters
|
|
Used oil filters can be disposed at the Del Norte County Transfer Station next to
the oil recycling tank free of charge (for residential use only). Oil filters
need to be drained 24 hours.
|
Car batteries
|
|
Lead acid car batteries are accepted at the Del Norte County Transfer
Station free of charge.
|
Antifreeze
|
|
Antifreeze (ethylene glycol) is accepted at the Del Norte County Transfer Station free
of charge. Please bring in a sealed container. Contaminated antifreeze
will not be accepted.
|
|
Latex Paint
|
|
Non-aerosol latex paint is accepted at the Del Norte County Transfer Station
free of charge. Bring in the original rust free sealed container. Stains, wood
preservatives, and oil-based paint should be brought to the household
hazardous waste roundup. Contact
DNSWMA
for the next scheduled roundup.

Packaging Peanuts & Shrink Wrap
|
|
Packing peanuts must not contain polystyrene blocks, cups or plates,
and should be dry and clean. Shrink wrap should also be dry, clean, and
free of all adhesives. Deliver directly to Julindra Recycling, 1039 Harrold
Street.
|
Autos & Metals
|
|
Large metal appliances like water tanks, washers, dryers, and refrigerators
are recycled at the Transfer Station. Call the Del Norte Solid Waste Management
Authority at 465-1100 for information on if and how you can recycle your
scrap autos, parts, metals, gas cylinders, trailers or mobile homes.
To report an abandoned vehicle call the Del Norte County Code
Enforcement Officer at 464-7254.

Household Batteries
|
|
All household batteries can be brought to the Del Norte County Transfer Station for a small fee. Please keep batteries seperate from trash. Nickel-cadmium and watch batteries can be taken to
Wal-Mart. If batteries are leaking or damaged, place them inside two plastic
bags and bring them to the Household Hazardous Waste Roundup.
